Waiting for it to rain!!!

We need rain! Watering the garden has been such a pain! They forcasted rain today, but so far, we have only had a quick sprinkle. Hardly any rain has fallen recently. Today's shower did not even penetrate the ground. Picked some potatoes from the garden though. Not that great a crop this year. The soil was too hard and clay like. The beans look great. Tomatoes look awesome! Enjoy!

Watering the garden...

I lugged 22 gallons of water up to the garden yesterday. Watered 3 rows of plants! The neighbors came up and filled 30 more gallons of water! That is 50 gallons of watering for 1 watering session! Also took some pictures of the garden so far. Everything is looking nice. The potatoes aren't as big as the ones at home, but the leaves look fine.
Threw top soil on the beans the other day. There was no soil in that manure that was thrown down by the town. I had already mixed black earth into it, but it still needed some more soil.

The garden on Saturday, June 24. Look at all of the ragweed behind the fence!! No wonder we have such a weed problem.

Our newly planted eggplants that we planted on June 19. They started as a trap crop, but we decided that we wanted some eggplant. Now the fleabeetles are gone and we will have tons of babba ganoush and eggplant parm!!
I put up a trellis for the butternut squash. I am so happy that they are doing so well after the frost fiasco.

Pumpkins!
Sorry about the focus. I haven't used my good camera for awhile. Cherry tomatoes.

All Blue flowers. Can't wait to eat the potatoes!

The garden on June 26. Hoop house with summer-weight fabric for the peppers. The peas are so tall!

The newly planted beans, 1 week after planting. So cute!

More planting!

The last bit of digging in the garden today!! Planted 6 rows of romano beans, 2 rows of stringless green beans. All the rows in the garden are done! Bought some black earth to cover the leeks with. It looks so nice! The potatoes are starting to bloom. Watermelon looks great. The previous beans I planted have been feasted on by rabbits. We think they were coming in through a hole (small) in the fence. Have to patch it up.
Planted lots and lots of eggplants today, partly as a trap crop, partly as an eating crop. The flea beetles love them! I think they are mostly gone now though. Also planted more celery, habanero peppers and flax flowers. Can't wait to see what the garden looks like in a month!

Peppers!

It finally rained last night! The garden was so dry! It threatened to rain all day but we got nothing. Then, last night, the skies let loose. I woke up early (5:45) and decided to go to the garden this morning, just to look. Ended up planting my oriental sweet potato slips and the rest of the peppers from seed. Loved being there by myself. Beautiful air!
